You will notice the reemergence of the "Mature" flag. We had problems with our Google ad feed with left us with three choices:
1) run without advertising until the money ran out,
2) enforce content censorship to make advertisers happy,
3) build an internal system to direct sensitive advertisers away from their unhappy places.
We chose the last. The mature flag does not change the content visible to Tribe members. The flag is to help ensure that Tribe can both support it's unique community and remain viable.

The end of the red light district at Ning
Tue, December 2, 2008 - 5:03 PMThere is an interesting post at Ning about their mature "red light district." It is informative and addresses issues that face all social networks that attempt to support anything out of the mainstream:

While Ning has a different model for organization than Tribe does with compartmentalization of content, this actually makes their job in some ways easier than Tribe's and still they could not make this model work. Tribe has some limitations with the current platform (as detailed in the code of conduct) but we are doing what we can now to support our diverse and unique user base and working hard to make a new platform that is unencumbered by some of these historical limitations.
